AONZ Appoints MJ Loza as Chief Executive Officer

Aotearoa New Zealand Fine Wine Estates (AONZ) has announced the appointment of MJ Loza as Chief Executive Officer following an executive search conducted by SEQEL Partners.

AONZ is responsible for making some of the world’s greatest genuinely cool climate Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc under the Pyramid Valley, Lowburn Ferry and Smith & Sheth brands. Established as a partnership in 2016 by Steve Smith, co-founder and developer of Craggy Range Winery, and Brian Sheth, a US-based investor with a background in technology and environmental philanthropy, their goal is to cement New Zealand’s reputation for exceptional wine within the high-end market.

MJ is highly regarded in the wine industry, with over 10 years’ experience in the sector. He is currently the Chief Executive Officer for the Bragato Research Institute where he supports world-leading wine innovation through their national research winery. Known for his ability to develop businesses and lead teams, MJ’s earlier career saw him spend 5 years as the General Manager for Seresin Estate, before moving into the CEO role for the Mud House Wine Group and spending time in the USA as the General Manager North America for Accolade Wines.

MJ joins AONZ in May 2021.
