​BDO New Zealand Appoint Duncan Smith as the National Chief Operating Officer

BDO New Zealand is pleased to announce the appointment of Duncan Smith as the National Chief Operating Officer following an executive search conducted by SEQEL Partners.

BDO in New Zealand extends across 15 offices, with over 800 people and they are all working towards providing their clients with exceptional service and developing richer client relationships. They provide full service Audit, Tax and Advisory solutions to over 28,000 SME, Mid-market and corporate clients in New Zealand.

Reporting to the BDO National Board, with David O’Connor as Chair, Duncan will be leading a cross functional business team, supporting BDO’s Offices across the country and executing on BDO’s National strategy 

Duncan spent his early career with KPMG in audit and assurance which spanned New Zealand, Cayman Islands, Hungary, and Russia/CIS. He spent five years as the CFO for Minter Ellison (Minters), before being appointed Chief Operating Officer for the law firm. After a brief stint at the Financial Markets Authority as Head of Business Performance, Duncan served as the Chief Operating Officer for KPMG NZ over a five year period.

Duncan has a Bachelor of Management Studies in Accounting and Business from the University of Waikato. 

Duncan will be based with the rest of the national team in BDO’s Takapuna office.
