Freightways are delighted to announce the appointment of Mark Cairns to its Board as an Independent Director effective 1 April 2021, following a Board appointment process undertaken by SEQEL Partners.

With his extensive experience in logistics, infrastructure, contracting and significant exposure to capital markets, Mark brings highly relevant knowledge to the Freightways Board. Mark has been Chief Executive of Port of Tauranga, New Zealand’s largest and most successful port, since 2005, and will retire in June to pursue a full-time governance career. Mark was previously Chief Executive of Toll Owens Limited and Owens Cargo Company Limited.

Mark is also a Director of Meridian Energy Limited, Northport Limited, Quality Marshalling Limited, and Coda Group Limited. In 2019 Mark received the Leadership Award from the Institute of Finance Professionals and the Deloitte/Management Magazine Executive of the Year Award in 2012.

Mark has a First Class Honours Degree in Civil Engineering, a degree in Business Studies and a Master of Management. He is a Fellow of Engineering New Zealand and a Member of the Institute of Directors.
