NZX appoints Hishaam Mirza as Chief Executive

NZX has appointed Hishaam Mirza as Chief Executive following a global executive search conducted by SEQEL Partners.

New Zealand’s Stock Exchange (NZX) operates New Zealand’s equity, funds, derivatives, energy and carbon markets. To support the growth of its markets, the business also provides trading, clearing, settlement, depository and data services for customers. NZX operates a funds management business, Smart, and funds administration platform, NZX Wealth Technologies.

Hishaam joins NZX with 25 years' experience in investments, corporate development, and governance. He is a highly regarded financial services executive and proven strategic leader with a successful career in investments and corporate development both in New Zealand and overseas.

Hishaam recently finished a 14-year career with the Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation, where he most recently headed Direct Investments and led a team overseeing approximately NZ$8 billion capital invested in real assets, healthcare, technology and financial services. He has previously held roles with EDF Energy, Lazard & Co and BP in London and Melbourne. From a governance perspective, Hishaam is also a Director of Datacom Group and Board Chair of Parnell District School.

Hishaam holds first-class honours in Commerce from the University of Melbourne. He commences with NZX on 14 September.
