Southern Cross Healthcare appoints Michael Quirke as Chief Operating Officer – Joint Venture Partnerships

Southern Cross Healthcare has appointed Michael Quirke as Chief Operating Officer – Joint Venture Partnerships following an executive search conducted by SEQEL Partners.

Southern Cross Healthcare is New Zealand’s largest private healthcare organisation and has been a trusted part of the New Zealand healthcare system for over 40 years. Comprised of a nationwide network of joint venture and wholly owned hospitals, specialist centres, physiotherapy, rehabilitation and employer health and wellness providers, the not-for-profit continually looks for ways to enhance and support the health and wellbeing of New Zealanders.

Michael is an accomplished and values-driven healthcare executive and Director with experience across New Zealand and Australia’s private health sectors. Most recently he was Chief Executive Officer – Hospitals at Evolution Healthcare where he led 11 private hospital sites. Previously Michael spent six years at Healthcare Holdings where he held a range of senior leadership roles including COO of the Radiology business, Director of Strategic Partnerships, and Chief Executive Officer – Mercy Radiology Group which saw him support a workforce of over 450. 

His earlier career was spent at Southern Cross Healthcare in Auckland and includes time in Australia with the private hospital providers Healthscope and Medibank. From a governance perspective Michael has been a Director of a range of healthcare focused boards including Auckland District Health Board, HealthAlliance NZ, and Kakariki Private Hospital.

Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Health Sciences, and an MBA all from the University of Auckland. He commences with Southern Cross Healthcare in early April.
